Cartesian coordinates are expressed as three mutually perpendicular axes, x, y, and z, with angstroms as the units. Coordinates in the Brookhaven Protein Data Bank (PDB) are reported in Cartesian coordinates, and the files contain a 3 × 3 matrix for converting the Cartesian coordinates to fractional coordinates. 2-phenoxyethanol is an aromatic ether that is phenol substituted on oxygen by a 2-hydroxyethyl group. It has a role as an antiinfective agent and a central nervous system depressant. It is a hydroxyether, a primary alcohol and an aromatic ether. It derives from a phenol. Ethylene glycol phenyl ether is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor.

The Protein Science CD-ROM is about to be released. Powerful new DynaTextTM software designed for Macintosh and Unix computers and for IBM-compatible computers running Microsoft WindowsTM enables searching, viewing, and printing of Protein Science articles. Jeremy Cockcroft's Hypertext Book of Space Groups Structures with Z '> 1 (i.e. more than one molecule in the asymmetric unit) are of intense current interest. As part of an EPSRC funded project, a web site has been developed concerning these fascinating systems including an annotated database of structures with high Z '> 1 as well as an index.

The Protein Data Bank (PDB) was established at Brookhaven National Laboratories (BNL) in as an archive for biological macromolecular crystal structures. In the beginning the archive held seven structures, and with each year a handful more were by: Protein databases are especially powered by the Internet.

Unlike traditional media, such as the CD-ROM, the Internet allows databases to be easily maintained and frequently updated with minimum cost. Researchers with limited resources can afford to set up their own databases and disseminate their data quickly.

Notably, many small databases on Cited by: 6. The Protein Data Bank has become a significant and popular website to supplement our curriculum within molecular biology. Despite attempts by textbooks to invigorate material with animations and CD-ROM presentations, the material in a book is often static and disconnected from the real world of science.

The Protein Data Bank (PDB) at Brookhaven National Laboratory, is a database containing experimentally determined three-dimensional structures of proteins, nucleic acids and other biological macromolecules, with approximately entries.

Data are easily submitted via PDB's WWW-based tool AutoDep, in either mmCIF or PDB format, and are most conveniently examined via PDB's WWW Cited by:   The Protein Data Bank began as a grassroots effort in It has grown from a small archive containing a dozen structures to a major international resource for structural biology containing more than entries.

The interplay of science, technology and attitudes about data sharing have all played a role in the growth of this resource. This resource is powered by the Protein Data Bank archive-information about the 3D shapes of proteins, nucleic acids, and complex assemblies that helps students and researchers understand all aspects of biomedicine and agriculture, from protein synthesis to health and disease.

As a member of the wwPDB, the RCSB PDB curates and annotates PDB : Nathan Filbert. The importance of structure in the understanding of biochemical principles was recognized early by Lehninger and is continued by the authors as shown by their inclusion of the Protein Data Bank identification code for each structure shown in the text.
